CAN DO Innovation Challenge Fund

By working with public bodies, suppliers can help to solve societal challenges, create new transformational public services and grow their businesses by commercialising their innovative solutions.

The CAN DO Innovation Challenge Fund is a national fund to support Scottish public sector organisations to work with suppliers and develop innovative solutions to operational service and policy delivery challenges.

The challenges provide suppliers with an opportunity to develop, test and demonstrate innovative products, working with a range of public sector organisations. The opportunity has the potential to allow your business to accelerate product innovation to wider public and possibly private sector markets. Many of the challenges will provide opportunities for suppliers to secure R&D contracts to develop their innovative ideas whilst retaining the right to exploit the IP developed.

The aims of the fund are to:

- Find solutions for service delivery issues faced by the public sector.
- Improve public services.
- Boost Scotland’s economic development.

The CAN DO Innovation Challenge Fund is a joint initiative between the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the Scottish Funding Council.

The Innovation Challenge Fund seeks to work with Public bodies to solve societal problems where,

- The solution meets the societal challenge through meeting the needs of end users
- No current available market ready solution exists within the context of that public service

Challenges can address any area requiring innovative solutions and in any form – e.g. a physical product or improvements to a process. Challenges will be advertised on Public Contracts Scotland, in the normal manner. Challenges will be defined by Public Sector organisations such as Local Authorities, NHS, Health and Social-care Partnerships and other publically funded bodies across Scotland.
