Case Study - PCS first-time contract win gets business rolling

Advanced Roller Doors (EK) Ltd is an East Kilbride-based company which manufactures, installs, services and repairs a wide range of security door products. The firm’s main presence is in retail, supplying roller shutters for shop fronts, but clients range from domestic to commercial and agricultural to industrial.


Established since 1997, with a staff of 14 and running a fleet of six vans, the firm is a keen convert to PCS, keeping a daily eye on what contracts are out for tender.

Director Jim Spiers said:

“We got off to a good start with PCS, because we won the first contract we bid for – and without PCS we would never even have known about the contract, let alone quoted for it.”

The contract in question was from Fife Council. A set of industrial units being constructed in Kirkcaldy needed security shutters for the front doors and rear windows, with quite specific architectural requirements.

“It was a very successful contract for us,” added Jim.

“We completed it satisfactorily and it gained us an introduction to Fife Council and got us registered as one of their approved contractors. Since that we have tendered for a number of other contracts through PCS.

“We first heard of PCS through our local Business Gateway, and once I got myself up and running and properly registered it has proved to be a very straightforward system to use and a tremendous source of information, not just for contracts but for finding out who else is in the industry through the portal’s contracts award notice archive and contacting them directly about other projects.

“On the contracts front, we get regular emails with projects which we may be interested in and we also log in every day to check through all the contracts and see what is on the go.

“We are looking to PCS to act as a means to expand our current client base through introduction to industry tenders that we would otherwise not know about.”
