Case Study - High-tech solutions deliver results

Public Contracts Scotland (PCS)was launched in 2008 to deliver a single electronic portal to help drive efficiency across the public sector – this online solution has proved to be significant for all kinds of businesses across Scotland, but for one company, it’s meant being able to demonstrate its own IT expertise. Fife-based Tecnica Ltd, a business systems integration and support specialist, was quick to sign up to PCS and has since landed a number of contract opportunities for a range of public sector organisations. Tecnica’s most recent success involved an email migration from Novell GroupWise to Microsoft Exchange for Scottish Natural Heritage, a contract which is almost complete.

Last year, the business also won contracts with The Scottish Agricultural College in Edinburgh to install a new Storage Area Network and with Scottish Association for Marine Science in Oban to deliver a Storage Area Network to support its desktop computing solution for a new teaching facility.

Tecnica was founded nine years ago by managing director Colin Archer who has over 25 years experience in the IT industry. The business has developed a reputation for delivering business computer systems to SMEs and large organisations across a range of sectors throughout Scotland. Contracts won through PCS made up 15 per cent of Tecnica’s annual turnover and the business sees working with the public sector as a major contributor to its growth strategy.

Colin Archer, said: “The business has used PCS since the portal was launched and it has opened up many tender opportunities to us. It is easy to search for and submit tenders using the e-tendering system and given so many public sector organisations are using the PCS, it saves a lot of time and effort when trying to source contract opportunities. We find the daily email alerts we receive another great time-saving tool.

“Tecnica has a varied mix of clients and as the business has grown, so has our service offering and expertise. The ability to engage so efficiently with the public sector is a very important element of our business strategy and one we hope to develop further by winning more contracts through PCS.”
