Case Study - Business lands Forth Replacement Crossing contract

West Calder-based MW Groundworks Ltd, has been registered on and using Public Contracts Scotland (PCS) since its launch in 2008.

The business established in 1992, specialises in groundworks such as landscaping of hard and soft areas, forestry clearances and civil works as well as plant hire and maintenance of landscape sites.

MW Groundworks attributes around 25 per cent of its £3.5 million turnover to contracts won through the PCS portal. It has successfully won a number of projects for local authorities in the central belt region, mainly play park landscaping and installation of play equipment.

More recently the business has successfully tendered for a contract advertised by Morrison Construction through the Forth Replacement Crossing subcontracting function on PCS. The £100,000 contract will see MW Groundworks involved in site clearance work up to 2014 as the road infrastructure is built around the new bridge.

Alan Roberts, contracts manager for MW Groundworks Ltd, said: “I find using the portal very straightforward and the email alert function is a great benefit – we can be sure we are not missing out on any potential opportunity.

“Working with the public sector is an important element of our business, particularly when construction within the private sector is being affected by the current economic climate.”
